The competitors have to cook for the potential judges/investors, and do two things.
- show their food that represents what they want to serve in their restaurant, and
- sell them their vision.
In the course of the episode this is what we see happen, acted out by the competitors. Examples abound of:
- No ability to articulate any vision of the restaurant one couple wants to open.
- No rehearsal of the recipes that will be served to these people who hold the key to their opportunity.
- No kitchen skills, to the point of not even being able to use a knife safely or open a can.
- No food sense at all
- Recipes selected to be cooked and presented in an hour that take a long cooking time.
No research.
No preparation
No forethought.
No clue.
They should have watched this video before the competition.
Here's the thing.
A restaurant, any business at all, anything worth doing at all, needs a good vision to start it off with an even chance of success.
